Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton ,Ron Wood - Feeling Alright

The 5th Dimension~ Feelin' Alright? (again)

Uploaded on 10 Nov 2009

I am TOTALLY diggin' this "head bopper/hip shaker" from the 1970 Portrait lp. This is a funky cover of the Dave Mason *Traffic*song that Joe Cocker famously remade. From the tinkle of the piano that drives the melody especially at the intro and breakdowns, and the heavy bass that drives the rhythm, to the drums laying down a phat beat, this song is just infectious. Add to that Billy's soulful, gritty voice accented by Lamonte & Ron in the back and Marilyn & Florence layered on top and behind Billy, this song is a real groover!!!

Enjoy!

*Note: Grand Funk Railroad also remade this song...but in ISIS' opinion...
This verison by the Fab 5th is THE BEST!!!*

Bushey hill (Radio Edit) - Postino Nu Jazz House

Postino (real name Junho Lee) is an electronic music producer based in London. He is the owner of independent record label Postino Records, and is noted as being one of the first South Korean producers to top the European DJ charts.[citation needed]

History

He started his professional career as a pop music producer in South Korea, composing film scores and producing singles for Korean singers. He has worked with Lee Ki Chan the longest, having produced five of his albums; a song from the ninth album, "합니다..." (to do...), was used to promote the film The Illusionist throughout South Korea.[1][verification needed] He arranged and produced for South Korean pop-girl group S.E.S. in 2002, and his songs 'Requiem' and 'Red Angel' were chosen by Japanese fans to be released on "S.E.S. Best".[citation needed] He was also producer and keyboard player for Acid Jazz/pop outfit Mogi.[2][unreliable source?][verification needed]

His debut album, A Letter From The Postino, was released in early 2007 via Lupin Records in South Korea.[3][verification needed] He moved on to work in London in 2007 where he started focusing on electronic music.

Bushey Hill Jazz House peaked at #2 on Juno Download's with the single "Bushey Hill".[4][unreliable source?] It remained at the top of the charts on Juno Download for five successive weeks,[citation needed] and ranked on Juno Recommends: Broken Beat/Nu Jazz and Deep House.[5]
He subsequently remixed a single for Korean entertainer Hwangbo, which peaked at #1 on JunoDownload's singles charts for four days.[6]

Pieorgi Records recently hosted Postino as a guest DJ at SQ Club in Poznań, Poland.[7][unreliable source?]

The name 'Postino' was inspired by his lifelong vision that electronic music can be as warm and full of meaning as a hand-written letter.[8][unreliable source?][verification needed]

Music Video

Postino released a music video for the single "I Love It" off the Golden Owl EP.[9] The video was released June 18th, 2013 and was directed, produced and edited by filmmaker Will Kindrick.[10] The video features a charismatic young girl (Darla Jacobs) and sidekick (Jonas Anthony Rubio) dressed in deer/shark costumes having a wild romp throughout the streets of Los Angeles.[11]

Brook Benton. Let Me Fix It.

Brook Benton - Let Me Fix It

The fun and funky "Let Me Fix It" was the b-side of "Shoes" and was part of Benton's 1970 Cotillion LP Home Style. The tune starts off with Brook casually sings the first verse over a jazzy organ rhythm before the Dixie Flyers come in and bring a swamp soul groove to the proceedings. Brook opens up then, and with his velvet baritone he sweetly but aggressively - and apparently successfully - woos a female vocalist (uncredited on the Cotillion 45, but actually Cissy Houston, whose Sweet Inspirations provided backup vocals on the LP), whose responses to his lines change from sassy to inviting over the tune's four-and-a-half minutes. Benton, who wrote the tune, is having a lot of fun here, and by the time he's running scales with the phrase "fix it" by the end, he's won the listener over also. Fix it, Brook!

After a long and successful tenure with Mercury Records, Brook Benton's career had started to wane, but hooking up with Atlantic in 1968 gave his career a major shot in the arm. He was assigned to the Cotillion subsidiary and he struck paydirt with Tony Joe White's atmospheric "Rainy Night in Georgia," a major R&B and pop hit in 1969. Benton stayed with Cotillion through 1972 but never hit big as he did with "Rainy Night in Georgia." He did, however, record a lot of good material, including a nice soul version of the Frank Sinatra anthem "My Way" and today's selection. After he left Cotillion he moved from label to label, leaving behind records on Stax (the great "I Keep Thinking To Myself," my personal favorite) and All Platinum, among others, but he never matched the successes of his early Mercury sides and the Cotillion material.

Fantastic Plastic Machine - Bachelor Pad (F.P.M. Edit)

"Bachelor Pad (f.p.m. edit)" was featured on the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack

Fantastic Plastic Machine - its the creation of Japanese producer Tomoyuki Tanaka. Tanaka draws inspiration from Pizzicato Five's retro` new wave but Fantastic Plastic Machine (Emperor Norton, 1998) is even more of a studio product, a kitsch montage of cliches borrowed from western pop music, a collection of ultra-hip, glamourous cross-cultural tunes (composed and recorded between London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Tokyo) delivered by guest vocalists over a bossanova-derived beat.

Mostly, Tanaka indulges in futuristic lounge music (Bachelor Pad, L'Aventure Fantastique, First Class '77) but his forte could be the surreal semi-orchestral pieces that manage to the border between Frank Zappa, the Ventures and Burt Bacharach (Fantastic Plastic World, Dear Mr Salesman, Allen Ginsberg).
The international flavor is even stronger on Luxury (Emperor Norton, 1999), thanks to the artificial trendiness (and real catchiness) of Honolulu Calcutta, Electric Lady Land and Mr Fantasy Love.

Tanaka reveals his passion for sexy dance music in You Must Learn All Night Long and Lotto, while letting his eclectic and witty universe get out of control in the cartoonish in Bossa For Jackie and I've Forgotten My Fagotto.

Unfortunately, after so many parodies of muzak, Beautiful (Emperor Norton, 2001) is beginning to sound like muzak. Love Is Psychedelic, Beautiful Days, Paragon still display Tanaka's phenomenal skills at orchestration, but too many tracks are merely derivative.

Walk On The Wild Side - The story behind the classic bass intro featurin...

Uploaded on 22 Jun 2010
An extract from the One Show featuring Herbie Flowers, and his part in the classic bass intro to Lou Reed's 'Walk on the wild side'.
Broadcast 9th June 2010

Uploaded on 19 Nov 2009
"Walk On The Wild Side" from Lou Reed's 1972 second solo album, Transformer, after leaving the Velvet Underground did not chart in the top 10 on Billboard. Some of the songs that year that did chart in the top 10 were: Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)," Mac Davis "Don't Get Hooked On Me," and Wayne Newton "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast." I'd say "Walk On The Wild Side" is just as memorable, if not more so than those ones. My favorite part of the song is probably the saxophone solo at the end 3:44.

To say the least, this song was highly controversial when it came out considering it is about transvestites who come to NYC for prostitution. They would say to their potential customers, "Take a walk on the wild side!" Lou Reed once said about the song: "I always thought it would be fun to introduce people to characters they maybe hadn't met before, or hadn't wanted to meet." What an amazing storyteller and lyrical genius Lou Reed was.

Try to find another song from this time period where the artists talks about "giving head," I doubt you can find another! He was writing about things that, frankly, almost no other artist at that time would even consider writing or singing about. Lou was well before his time, and has inspired countless artists from all genres. What a classic, classic song! Still no song like it to this day. What other artist other than Lou could get away with lyrics like: "And the colored girls go doo do doo, doo do doo, doo do doo"?! The lyrics are way too clever and fun not to post in the description so here they are:

Lyrics:

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, 'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'
He said, 'Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side'

Candy came from out on the island
In the backroom she was everybody's darlin'
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She says, 'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'
He said, 'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'

And the colored girls go
Doo do doo, doo do doo, doo do doo

Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City's the place where they said
'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'
I said, 'Hey Joe, take a walk on the wild side'

Sugar plum fairy came and hit the streets
Lookin' for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo, you should've seen 'em go go go
They said, 'Hey sugar, take a walk on the wild side'
I said, 'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'
Alright, huh

Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that bash
She said, 'Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side'
I said, 'Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side'

And the colored girls say
Doo do doo, doo do doo, doo do doo

LATIN FUNK -- RARE LP // Massive grooves from a very unique group! These guys play guitar and percussion all at once -- in a flurry of fast grooves that rip away tremendously, but with a style that's still plenty darn earthy! There's definitely a bit of a global influence in the music overall, but the sound comes out as pure funk in the end -- tightly focused, and very jamming -- but not in a way that's ever too overindulgent --- GACHERO, WAR, MUSIC IN MY HEAD, MACK ONE, CHANCE THE WORLD, ACROSS DE OCEAN, HIGH WINDS, ACAPULCO GOLD, GUYANA GROOVE, NOWHERE TO HIDE

Betty Boo "Hey DJ I can't Dance" Promo

Self-styled U.K. pop-rap diva Betty Boo (born Alison Clarkson) began her music career as a teenager, singing in the rap trio the She-Rockers, the duo Hit 'N' Run, and studying sound engineering at school. Originally dubbed Betty Boop because of her resemblance to the classic cartoon character, the half-Malaysian, half-Scottish singer became Betty Boo when lawyers representing Betty Boop objected to her use of the name. After signing with the Rhythm King label, Boo got her first taste of success guesting on the Beatmasters' 1989 single "Hey DJ I Can't Dance (To That Music You're Playing)," which reached number seven on the U.K. charts; in turn, the Beatmasters appeared on her 1990 single "Doin' the Do," which also reached number seven due to the novelty of Boo's pop-rap approach and on the strength of the single's quirky, low-budget video.

Boo's next single, "Where Are You Baby," featured an even more eye-catching clip and reached number three. Likewise, her full-length debut Boomania -- the majority of which Boo wrote and produced herself -- went platinum in the U.K. Ultimately, Boo won the 1991 Brit Award for Best Pop Artist; that year, she also signed a deal with Warner/Sire. However, during an Australian concert, it was discovered she was lip-synching to tapes; Boo canceled the rest of her tour and kept a low profile until the release of her 1992 single "Let Me Take You There," which still managed to reach number 12 in the U.K.; its follow-up, "I'm on

My Way," hit number 44. Boo's second album, Grrr, It's Betty Boo, didn't match the commercial or critical success of its predecessor, and ultimately the singer left Warner/Sire. She took a few years out of the pop spotlight to care for her mother, reappearing in 1997 as a backing vocalist on Kilo Ali's Organized Bass. A few years later, Boo found her niche in contemporary pop as a songwriter, penning the hit single "Pure and Simple" for the British teen pop sensation Hear'Say and collaborating with Bob and Chris Herbert, the impresarios behind the Spice Girls and 5ive. Along with working on her own new material, in 2001 Betty Boo released the retrospective Doin' the Do: The Very Best of Betty Boo. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
